September 12, 2020: Dear SVCNaz Family,
As we move forward as a church body, the SVCN board continues to thank you for your prayers as decisions are being made. Following are items of importance that we would like to share with you.
The church staff and the board are beginning preparations for re-opening the church doors for a service at 10:30am, on September 20, 2020. There will be more accommodation for seating as extra chairs have been placed in groups in the rear of the sanctuary. Please remember to do a healthy self-check before you come and note that masks are required and are to be worn for the entire time you are in the building. We also remind you to honor the practice of social distancing in your times of conversation. If you are unable to comply with these guidelines, please join in our livestream worship service by going to the SVCNaz Facebook page at 10:30 each Sunday.
Recently, Reverends Sharon and Brent Norman and Wendy Fisher have announced their resignations from SVCN effective Wednesday, September 30, 2020. We are so thankful for their years of service and want to celebrate their ministry by showering them with cards of appreciation. If you would like to provide them with a monetary gift or gift cards or simply write a letter of appreciation, there will be a card receptacle at the welcome center to do so.
In addition, Reverend Brad Stockton will be serving as our interim pastor to assist our church body throughout the month of October.
Finally, by unanimous action, the church board nominated Pastor Nathan Miller to the church membership as Senior Pastor, and he has accepted. The vote will be on Sunday, September 27, 2020, 1 hour prior to worship service and from the completion of service until 1pm. Drive-up voting will be available to those in need.
We look forward to continuing to serve as God directs us.
Respectfully, Your SVCN Church Board

June 21: Hello SVCNaz! Your church board met with our district superintendent Dr. Woodie Stevens to outline the exact steps we need to take to elect a new Pastor. This past week, we met for 3 hours discussing what we need in a pastor to help lead our church. The process is lengthy, and we will be meeting again for the next 3 weeks. Once the board prays, and God presents us with the perfect person for the job, the candidate will be presented to the registered members of the church body for a vote. A 2/3 vote will confirm a pastor, and then that candidate has 14 days to accept the call or not. Please keep praying for us. We do not take our responsibilities lightly.
Due to the COVID19 pandemic, our current board members will continue to serve for one additional year and our previous year's delegates will represent SVCNaz again at our district assembly.
Sincerely,
The Church Board

April 27: The Church Board would like to thank you for your prayers and encouragement as we work our way forward in the transition process. We are developing what is called a Pastoral Profile. This document will be used as a guide for us to find the most qualified candidates to be our next Pastor and helps our interim District Superintendent, Dr. Woody Stevens, understand what we need in our new Pastor. Dr. Stevens will guide the board through this process.
Our next step is to start reviewing resumes and praying for God to lead us to the best candidate. This process is very important. There are numerous interviews and conversations that will occur. Once the board has been led to a suitable candidate, that candidate will be presented to the official membership for a vote to extend a call to ministry at our church.
Sincerely,
The Church Board
March 20: Hello Everyone! We are truly a blessed people of God, and in the midst of the uncertainty in the world, know that our church has the opportunity to be a light to so many people in our community. We here at SVCN are in what is called a “transition time.” Our search for a new Pastor will officially be starting April 1st. The process is involved and detailed, as it should be. We as a board, have the responsibility of vetting candidates and finding the one that we believe God has called to serve with us at our church. We do not take this process lightly. As we begin this journey, we ask that you continue to pray for our staff as well as those of us who serve on the church board. We are confident that God will make clear to us the path that HE would like us to follow.
While in this transition time we will have guest preacher, Rev. Brad Stockton, who will be bringing the messages on Sundays. This will allow our staff to give full attention to the daily operations of the church and caring for the congregation.
A little information about Rev. Stockton: For the last 25 years he has served as lead pastor of the Owosso First Church of the Nazarene in Owosso, Michigan, the Webster Groves Church of the Nazarene in Webster Groves, Missouri and the Bonner Springs Church of the Nazarene in Bonner Springs, Kansas. He says, “The greatest part of these pastoral experiences has been seeing lives transformed by the power of God!”
His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Olivet Nazarene University and a Master of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary.
He has been married to Bethany for twenty-seven years. She has a bachelor’s degree in music and a minor in Christian Education from Mount Vernon Nazarene University and has worked as an Orthodontic and Dental Assistant for twenty-six years.
His Life Mission is “To abide fully and continually in Christ the Vine in order to bear much fruit that lasts!” His Life Verse is John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5, NKJV)
Please welcome Rev. Stockton as he shares the word with us beginning this Sunday. We are so excited to be worshiping with him.
Sincerely,
The Church Board

February 23: It's an exciting time for the worshipers at SVCN! Sunday, March 8, we will be having a potluck lunch right after church to honor Pastor Randy and Judy. This will be a time of fellowship, showing our true appreciation for all the work and effort the Owens's have put forth for our church. Fried Chicken and Ham will be provided, and we ask that you please bring a dish to pass. It would be great to have lots of side dishes, salads, and deserts. With how Pastor and Judy have blessed the community, we expect a LARGE turnout so we need to make sure we have more than enough! There will be a sign up at the Welcome Center.
Our party for Pastor Randy and Judy also allows us to bless them for their service and their dedication to SVCN. If you feel inclined, gifts of cash, nationally recognized giftcards (Walmart, Target, Visa Gift cards) greeting cards or gas cards are sincerely appreciated.
There will be index cards at the welcome center for you to leave a heartfelt message, share a story, or just great blessings and prayers for next step in their journey.
There will also be an event page on Facebook. Please confirm, on the event page, that you are coming, and share it with your friends. The Owen’s family has touched many lives in our area, and we want to make sure anyone who might want to say goodbye has the chance.
We the board, are dedicated to making sure the works that we started with Pastor Owens will continue, and we take our responsibilites very seriously. But for now, lets make sure we send our Pastor off with the best potluck we've ever had. (And we do potlucks right, so this will be awesome.)
Again we want to remind you that our Lenten Postcards series begins this Wednesday, February 26th. If you have not signed up for a discipleship huddle we encourage you to do that today. We will be seeking the heart of God through reading His word, praying and being accountable to one another. We are trusting God for great days ahead.
Sincerely,
The Church Board

February 9: On February 2, our pastor, Randy Owens, announced that he had been appointed to be the senior pastor of a church near Pittsburgh, PA. and that he his last Sunday at SVCN would beMarch 8. While this came as a shock to many of us, we know that Pastor and Judy live to walk in obedience and so although are hearts are sad we believe God's hand is guiding them.
A change in leadership can be a scary thing. However, we are committed to making this a great transition, and we believe that the change in leadership is something God is using to accomplish his will and lead SVCN to be and become all he wants us to be.
We know that many of you are aware that our Nazarene polity dictates that when a pastor resigns, so does the staff. However the manual also allows board to retain the staff if they so desire. We believe strongly that we are blessed with an amazing staff and we have asked them to remain in place. Pastor Randy will be working together with the board and staff to insure that we have the most seamless transition possible. Additionally, with the guidance of our District Superintendent (DS) Kevin Hardy, the board will begin looking ahead and planning our next steps.
As the first step in preparing for where God is leading us, make sure to join us for our Lenten Postcard Series. For seven weeks beginning Feb 26, we’ll be seeking the heart of God through reading His word, praying and being accountable to one another. We are trusting God for great days ahead.
Sincerely,
The Church Board
